Points planning guide

Your first points transfer: a booking checklist

Follow a simple sequence to check card eligibility, award space and transfer details before committing points.

Prepared September 10, 2026. Official resources reviewed on that date; verify your signed-in terms and current availability before transferring.

1. Verify your points and card

Identify the exact rewards currency and the card that makes it transferable. Use your issuer’s signed-in transfer menu to confirm the destination program and current terms. An airline-branded credit card balance is not necessarily the same currency as the issuer’s transferable points.

2. Confirm the booking account

Create or verify the loyalty account you will book through. Chase advises matching the account names. Check the membership number carefully and make sure the transfer destination is the program offering the award, not merely the airline operating the aircraft.

3. Confirm the full award

Search the correct passenger count and all required directions. Note points, fees, cabin on each segment, transfer timing and cancellation conditions. Chase warns that transfers may take up to seven business days; do not assume an award will remain available while points move.

4. Transfer only after checking

Chase says its transfers are final. Use the issuer’s displayed ratio and increments to calculate the shortfall after existing miles. Once the transfer arrives, verify the award again and complete the booking with the loyalty program. A transfer confirmation is not a flight reservation.
